My head hurts now, and I'm embarrassed to know I even took a look.

But the question remains: ARE YOU TELLING ME I'M MISSING OUT ON DOLLARS BY NOT ASSOCIATING WITH THESE PEOPLE?

As hard as it might be here at GFY, I really am looking for a real, business-driven, and at least semi-intelligible answer, preferably by someone not talking completely and flatulently out of his or her ass.
Take for example the lol cats phenomenon. This originated from from "Caturday" on 4chan - basically every Saturday people post picture of cats with funny captions. Someone thought this was clever and built a blog around it. This blog sold for 2 or 4 million (i don't recall which - but it wasn't spare change) and eventually morphed into this: http://icanhascheezburger.com

A company that employees 12 people and is apparently profitable. This is just one example.
