My daughter is 13 and lovedlovedloved the whole Twilight series. She's loved everything by Scott Westerfield as well.
My 7-year-old is digging the oldie but goodie "Choose your own Adventure" books. It's really fun to see him getting into reading FINALLY!
I find books by looking on Amazon for recommendations from the books I already know they like. So far, that's worked out really well.
