Chronicles of Narnia. Good books at any age but I was around 12 when I started reading them
If the 7 year old is a girl, the Fancy Nancy books are cute. And you can never go wrong with Curious George or Dr. Suess, IMHO
Sarah, I just started reading the Twilight series today - so far, so good - worth it for a quick read even if it's geared towards teens
