What's your opinion? respect issue...
So, I'm moving. Today was the first day... hanging curtains, setting up lights and stuff. Kids (read teenagers), sis and brother in law are helping me with some small boxes, etc.
Anyways, i'm standing in the driveway of my new place, and these two cats pull up and park along the street... looking at me the whole time... i didn't think anything of it at first, but fuck, they were mad doggin me...
The older dude is on the phone and starts to just walk past me up the driveway without even so much as a nod or wave.
"Can I help you?", I ask him.
Nothing. just keeps walking.
"Hey."
He hangs up the phone... "I gotta go (sigh). I'm here to fix the heater... the water heater." Still not stopping.
I follow him to the back where it's located, and ask him if he's the guy that installed it. "Yep." he says. With a bit of attitude.
"Well, there were two major gas leaks that I had to fix," I say, while I point to where they were.
"Oh, well.. I didn't do that part.. it was the gas company."
Whatever.
I walk away, thinking about how rude this cat was and just stand there waiting for them to finish, so I could say something as they left.
The Lackey comes around the corner, makes eye contact with me... sees me walking towards him, and proceeds to bark an order at my daughter. She stops, looks at me, and I tell him to tell me what he wants... not her.
"I need the hot water turned on." He says.
"Allright, i'll turn it on." And I do.
Come back outside and the older, on the phone cat, comes out and starts asking me "what's up?"
Politely and calmly, I tell him that I think he was rude the way he just barged in without saying anything.
He gets all aggro, tries to get up in my face, and I just stand there while he goes on about how he's been working here for the past six months and i just moved in today, so he can do what the fuck ever he pleases.
"Nope. Doesn't work that way." I tell him, and stand there to watch him finish.
A few more snide remarks back and forth and he's left.
My question: Was I out of line? Should I have not confronted him like I did? I really wanted to just punch him, and feel like I took the higher road by just telling him that i thought he was rude.
What say you?
