You know this is fucked up by SA standards too. Most people over there don't support this kind of thing either, and it's not like the whole country is out marrying 8 year olds.
In some circumstances though, the family doesn't have a choice. Women don't work over there so if they don't get married, and their parents are poor, they have no place to go. So when an opportunity arises, they will take it.
