There are quite a few pornographers who voted for George Bush. They mostly reasoned that the benefits of a tax cut would outweigh the disadvantages of higher prosecution rates. Was this rational or not?

Personally I think it's very difficult to analyze. On the surface of it the proposed higher tax rates for the highest income bracket would make one think that life under Bush was better- given that there were a minimal number of prosecutions. However Bush' increased spending (up 7% in back to back years at the worst) vs a long term average of about 3.5% or so is in essence, a tax on future incomes - unless GDP should grow at a faster rate than that which seems quite unlikely.
