Don't ever attempt to go into any sort of mental health support work.
I am thrilled that you have never been so low to be able to contemplate killing yourself. However, expecting anybody that has actually reached that level or mental anguish to take ridicule from you isn't being a friend. Tough love is one thing...continuing their mental beating is another. If you don't know what that sort of mental hell feels like than count your blessings.
I hope I could never kill myself..I am pretty sure I couldn't but you never know what will happen in your life and tip you into a horror of a mental place. Mind you, I am pretty sure if I didn't do it after my husband died I never will but I sure as hell went into an amazingly dark place and I would not have wanted friends to ridicule me for being in that space.
We had the grown (but still young) son of close friends of our family reach such a level of mental illness that he parked his car on the side of the road, stood in the middle of a busy road..crouched down like he was waiting to run a race and then wait for a tractor trailer to approach..then he ran towards it and got hit. This was after years and years and years of his parents trying to help him with real manic depression. Real depression like that is not something people can just snap out off to see the reason of not killing themselves.
