Isn't that the truth! I have 3 kids. 15, 11 & 11 - all boys. I've spent a considerable amount of time trying to educate my kids on just what the responsibilities are and the consequences are of their actions. So far, so good!
The high schools here in California have a program they put the kids through their freshman year. Its a whole curiculum based on what its like being a teen parent. The culmination of the program ends with each student being given a simulation baby. It's a computerized doll that mimics an infant. It has sensors that can tell how its being treated, it crys when it needs to be changed or fed. The bottle and diapers have sensors so the baby knows if its truely being attended to. The kids have to keep the baby for 48 hours.. and one of those nights, the baby cries almost all night. HUGELY successful tool. My son, and his friend were shaken for weeks. Great eye opener - and I know will greatly impact their drive to only have protected sex.
