If your husband didn't have a bond with his mother, he wouldn't be taking care of her in the first place. If his relationship was that bad, he'd leave her to herself and county services would take care of her. If she was such a bad mother, he wouldn't have a second thought about helping her out, he just would have nothing to do with her.
And if some little old lady makes your life shitty, maybe it isn't that great to begin with?
