It's a big mistake to think the UK pays more tax than in the USA, its a mistake i made when i first moved here 14 years ago. First you have State tax then Federal. The State board of Equalization adds around 8% to each purchase you make. Then you come to the hidden taxes, taxes that people who don't live here hardly hear about. First you have property tax. I pay around $20,000.00 tax annually for my house in California ( 4 bedroom 3 bath 4 garage, not much land ) A house I own in Wimbledon London. 7 bedrooms and lots of land cost me just a little over £2,000 a year ($3,245.00) See the difference?
Then if you own a business the fun really starts. In Cali they tax you for every little thing. Replace an awning on a restaurant $5,000 for a permit( plus they add that value to the landlords property tax as an improvement ) . Then you have business license, the ABC tax ( liquor license tax) Health inspection tax $550.00 per year ( you pay the health department to come inspect your business ???) The list goes on and on. I made the mistake of thinking its way cheaper to live in the USA than in London , believe me it's not. with all the hidden taxes i think we are on par or pay slightly more than the UK in Taxes
