GMC, as far as I know, only makes trucks and suv's (I used to work at a dealership that carried GMC) and those trucks and suv's are
identical to the ones chevrolet makes, save for the grille.
So why would they keep that brand along with chevrolet? They could cut back to 3 lines or keep one like Saturn.
