Call the head office for the car manufacturer for your area. So if it was a Chevvy and you live in Tampa FL call GM USA. You get the picture. Be polite and explain the situation. They absolutely have the power to cover it under "good will" and they probably will but don't start off being confrontational.
Really? You ever worked in a dealership? I managed a body shop in a dealership, and know EXACTLY what motivated the dealership to honor expired warranty claims. Especially in todays market they don't want to do something that the actual cost for them will be maybe 30% of what they quoted to do the job, and risk losing multiple 20 to 40k vehicle sales. The customers that came in and were all zen and nice were normally told nothing could be done, and sent away. If he bought the vehicle at that dealership and his salesman is still there he bought it from, that is the first person to go talk to. Why? Because that salesman lives more off commissions than he does off their normal draw. That salesman wants that next commission off a customer he has built a relationship from the previous sale.

That salesman also might be able to offer you a killer deal on a brand new vehicle and give him the same trade in value that he would of if the transmission was fine. It is a 2005 4 years old, and is out of warranty. If that is a viable option it might be the way to go, because this is just the beginning of repair issues.

Option 2 is goto a non dealership transmission shop and get the repair done for probably less than 1200.00

But unless you worked at a dealership and know how things work dont tell me my advice is shitty. Fucking believe me if it was me I would get the transmission replaced under warranty and a free detailing done before I drove it back off the lot for being inconvenienced, then being giving an outlandish quote of 5500.00.

But Im sure you know better. I only worked in the auto industry for close to 13 years.
