So yesterday my girl and I are sitting in the lobby bar having a cocktail and just about to go up and get changed for our dinner reservations for the evening when the little lounge singer begins to sing Come Monday by Jimmy Buffett. Someone at the bar said "I sure wish I was at his show tonight" and my ears perked up. I asked "Is Jimmy Buffett in concert here tonight?" and sure enough he was suppose to start singing at 7pm.
A quick look at the watch, however, revealed it was just a bit past 6 so I figured there would be no way to get tickets and get there. The bar tender said "if I can get you tickets would you like to go?"...I said OF COURSE! So I kind of got my hopes up. Ten minutes later he finally hears from his contact only to find out tickets were sold out. Oh well, I think, it would have been fun but we were just too late.
We begin the walk back to our room and the more we thought about it, the more we said WHAT THE FUCK....lets just go down to the Maui Cultural Arts Center and see if we can find some tickets. It will probably never work but hey, it is worth a try.
So, it is by now 6:30 with the concert starting in an hour....we hop in the jeep...still in our beachwear....and head down to the amphitheater. It is a 30 minute drive with no traffic so I knew we were cutting it close. I guess since we were so late, the traffic just flew all the way to the event. Of course, the "close" parking was all sold out but there was one spot only a little walk away that we were able to get for $5.....yes, $5.
A quick walk up to the venue provides us with about a 60 year old, silver haired, well tanned and fit dude who is talking on his cell phone but is holding 2 tickets in that proverbial "it's illegal, but i am trying" pose. We locked eyes as I walked closer and he said "want a hell of a deal on some great seats?". That was music to my ears. He said "I got 2 on the 7th row just left of center. Face value is $125, but you can have them for $100 each". Of course, I was like "where do I sign?".
Now, I get nervous. This was just too easy. I am walking into the amphitheater, the lights are just beginning to go down, the steel drum is starting up and I am thinking that I am going to find out the tickets are either bogus or are on the 7th row of the upper level.
Come to find out when we got to our seats that we were not, in fact, in the 7th row from the stage....but the 6TH ROW!!!!
We took our seats as Jimmy Buffett walked out on stage!! What a night it was!!!
I have had some great experiences in my life, but this one goes to show you that if you are just willing to try you can create the memory of a lifetime for $205 (including parking) ;)
