I think the problem lies with the assault rifles that are easily converted to full auto. Nobody can tell me there is any logical reason to own that beyond being paranoid about the government.
They need to clearly define the difference between typical rifles and assault rifles in the law.
And of course being your neighbour to the north, I have to say that attempting to stem the flow of weapons across a border is a good thing. The hand guns used in crimes up here (in large part) come across the border. Not much we can do about it because of their size, not because of the failure of the border inspection stations.
