For arguments sake, let's say Joe Redneck is completely responsible with this gun, jerks off to the firepower, locks it up at night, etc. The problem is the fact that the M16 is available to Joe Redneck. When it's available to Joe Redneck, it's also available to anyone and before we know it, banks are getting robbed by people holding M16's, cops are getting shot at, gangs are shooting up neighborhoods like war zones.
It's bad enough there are more guns than people on the streets, so the damage is long done there. Banning regular guns (which should have been done before the damage) wouldn't do shit now because the black market would have no problem supplying criminals for many, many years even if another gun is never made in the world.

Do you know how many crimes are committed with LEGAL firearms versus ILLEGAL firearms? Lets put a spectrum number to all crimes committed with firearms and say the number is 100. So out of that 100, 1 or 2 would be attributed to persons using a legally obtained firearm to commit a crime.
It is an absolutely ridiculous idea, and down right lacking in ANY intelligence, to believe that taking guns out of the hands of "LAW ABIDING" citizens will reduce crime. Criminals do not care about laws and will obtain their firearms the way the always have, by stealing them or buying them out of the trunk of an illegal gun runner/dealer.
Please wake the fuck up and get a grip on reality.
