Actually, she shouldn't feel anything at all from those screws and plates. I never have. With me it was just a matter of regaining mobility in my neck. For the first couple of years I was scared to death to turn my head even slightly. And then when you slowly get over that fear, you have to work on being able to turn your neck. The vertebrae that are fused can no longer twist and turn. So your spine begins to make corrections and use other sections to do the turning. It takes a little while and you never get it back completely. But I'm pretty sure she doesn't have any pain from it. At least I never did, and mine was broken pretty bad too.
