I had comcast and hated them with a passion.
I dropped them for DirectTV toward the end of last summer for viewing purposes. Have to have them for internet right now, as there are no other feasible options.
I love DirectTV. Love them.
When I initally decided I was pissed off enough to ditch comcast, I knew DirecTv was what I wanted, because of the Sunday Ticket. That is an awesome experience in and of itself.
But the rest of it is great, too. I had people tell me that I would regret it, but so far, nothing but good to say.
I had a professional, competent installer who did a good job, and did not leave any sort of mess after the install. In all the months I have had it, my signal has flickered twice, and that was in the middle of a torrential downpour with hard winds. It was a momentary thing, not like I lost signal for any amount of time.
I have had to call customer service a few times, mostly in regards to trying to get around the waiver for local channels. (I live in an area where they aren't offered). When I made those calls, I have had no hold time to speak of, have dealt with English speaking reps who conducted themselves in a professional, friendly manner.
I did have an incident recently when my HD dvr needed went bad and needed to be replaced. That incident was the fault of the contracted service provider though, not DirecTV, and it had to do with appointment cancellation. It did get dealt with though, with the region supervisor of the service provider calling me, and me getting a bunch of discoutns from DirecTV.
Were I you, I'd dump comcast and never look back.
