A refresh/reload should be built in as a function for a specific page element, and the ability to move/minimize/maximize elements should also be built in.
That's the direction development is taking. Look at Gmail, Gtalk and Google Docs to see some early examples.
It's the whole point of Ajax - turning a single page into an entire application.
