I think it just goes to show how gullible people really are and how it's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

AIG etc (enter your favorite bailout candidate/receiver) has been doing things skirting the line or stepping over the line for quite some time. Yet............ as long as those books showed a healthy profit, their shareholders are happy! Rarely does someone read how the money was acquired, they are just happy to know that it was and that the books are strongly on the positive side. (Note: financial statements don't always make it clear how a business is DOING BUSINESS, just that they are and being either successful or unsuccessful at it).

So..... my point is this. AIG got away with some shit.. then the firestorm/economic crap rains down. They are in tight with the last administration and the current administration, but they also have a list of assets which if allowed to fail would be very unhealthy for the state of the US economy.... thus, they are afforded bailout monies to deliver as they see fit.

Unfortunately, they saw fit to continue their practices as before..... as are the Auto Makers, UAW, other banks, etc.

People/Taxpayers/Legislators seem to think that once handed the safety monies, that dumbshit corporations and leaders are going to "do the right thing." However, it's not surprising that bonuses are being paid, junkets are being taken, etc etc etc. If people can abuse it, it's pretty much a certainty that they will. Bernie Madoff... prime example.

Sooooooooooooooo..... AIG, Auto Makers, UAW, any other fuckheads nation/world wide that are playing with other people's money... fuck all of you. Die a nice quick painful death.

I truly would like some sort of legislation (although how to word it to avoid abuse of it is almost impossible) that says..... what you are doing may not be particularly illegal as you are doing it, but in hindsight if society felt you were trying to pull a fast one and fuck people over, we have the right to come after you, those you assisted by fleecing, etc etc etc.

Again, it's easier to fuck someone over and keep the cash, than it is to ask permission if whether what you are doing is right or not. So.. AIG pays the bonuses and goes... OOPS.. sorry.... can't get the money back though.

Wouldn't it be nice if people in general felt that morals, ethics and just plain acting like decent human beings were the norm rather than the exception?
