I have a girl that I see now, but I'd hardly call her a significant other, since it's more or less a convenience thing for both of us. We are both busy people, and she is a cool chick, so we get together when we can and always have a good time. I suspect if I ever did try and get serious with her it wouldn't work, since I believe the reason we get along so well is a product of our arrangement.
Out of all my many relationships, there has only been one girl that I felt the same way about that you mention, as far as just looking at her sometimes and thinking "Holy shit, I really love her", and that is the best feeling in the world. Every time I thought about something fun I wanted to do, she was the one I wanted to do it with, and if I wanted to talk about something I wanted to talk about it with her. Since I've had a few Rum and Cokes I'll even give her the ultimate man compliment...when I masturbated, I thought of her. I mean seriously, who does that? But our relationship, and our sex life, was that damn good.
She had a vicious drug problem, and I have no doubt if it wasn't for that we would be married and living happily ever after. The problem is people stay in relationships that don't work, just because they feel comfortable, or because they want to be in love with the person, but just aren't. When you find the one, you know, and you'll never settle for the bullshit relationships again...
