If it seems that it isn't detouring the fight quick single leg and shoot for his back and catch the neck and put him out nicely without trying to inflict damage. People generally wake up from a "choke out" peacefully and dont seek retribution if they are unharmed.
If he has friends, pull arm guard into a quick armlock. Make sure it breaks!! His friends are not there to see you win. I take those situations very seriously. I have seen friends leave those situations with a permanent speech impediment ,brain damage and drool. Not cool!!!!
???? Why pull guard? Because his friends wont jump in because he is on top of you looking like he is winning and when his arm breaks and his friends see it turn black and purple and he is screaming like a bitch, nobody is gonna jump in!!! Nobody comes to a club to go to the hospital and nobody wants to be the 2nd guy.
I have done all of the above more than once. I do recommend the peaceful approach every-time when you have the choices. I made a living teaching hand to hand combat tactics and BJJ.
