All hard drives can get bad sectors and fail. If you want to try and prevent that don't buy a OEM drive. They are repackaged (horribly usually) and a drive getting tossed around can cause bad sectors or cause the drive to fail.

There are drives that have better chances of not failing. If you look around newegg you can find a higher class of drives like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148295
I believe all the "ES" drives from seagate are suppose to be better and more reliable. I would *not* buy from newegg though, all they sell are OEM like the one I linked to.

But if you really want something reliable I'd grab a SSD. They can still fail but the main reason HDD fail is from bad sectors and from my understanding SSD can't get bad sectors. There's a lot of crappy cheap SSD out there though, I'd grab a known good one such as a intel one like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820167005 . I know that's not 320g+ but you could raid them or buy bigger ones if you have the cash.

SSD are also a hell of a lot faster than HDDs too.
