Well, Satan was once Gods favorite and the sin he made was Pride. Having pride in himself, in his favor from God over others. Thought he was too good to be with the others anymore. So he was cast down for being a prideful arrogant jerk and not appreciating things properly.

I mean I dunno, if you believe in god and/or christ etc, you absolutely must believe in satan as well.

The whole fire and brimstone though, thats Dante. Not the bible. "Hell" is supposed to be a cold desolate place according to the books, if I'm remembering correctly.
