Do not heat the snifter itself. Instead heat the brandy, then pour it into the snifter. The best way to do this is to pour the brandy in a flask (metal works best, but can leave a funny aftertaste, so I use glass) and make sure the cap is on firmly, then set the flask in hot water. The hotter the water, the hotter the brandy, and brandy that's too hot is nasty. You want it at about 100 degrees before pouring it from the flask into the snifter. It should be warm and comfy in the hand (snifter will not be too hot; think baby formula temperature) before sipping.

*EDIT: Forgot to tell you how long to let the flask sit in the water. Usually takes about five to seven minutes, so that the alcohol can gradually warm. Enjoy.
