It's no excuse, actually, to be balanced:
I can't label Czechs as total cowards, at least the generation that was active during the the world war I and between 1918 ans 1945 had a lot to offer.
Actually, one of the most important strategic moves from Hitler was to defeat / append Czech in a non military way, that happened with the Munchen Treaty in September 1938 adding the "german" parts, and then finally on 15.3.1939 by appending the whole country to the Third Reich.
The main reason
- one million men available for mobilization
- some of the highest level of military industry in Europe (Always a technological and industrial heart of the Austria/Hungarian empire before) and not to forget
- the fortification that was built in early 30's was said to be a much worse obstacle than the Maginot Linie in France, that was easily strategically bypassed by the forces of Wehrmacht (a plan put together by Mannstein and Guderian).
Nothing is one sided, but communism and now the politics of dumbing and mediocrity really killed any spirit here
