These have been around for a few years now, though it looks like the selection has certainly increased from what it used to be.
The terminology of "anti-rape" is misleading however as each one of these devices requires penetration at which point the rape has already occurred... furthermore they're highly controversial because the key argument against them is that if the attacker has a weapon, finding his penis poked or trapped in some way, will incite him to use the weapon, making the situation even worse than it already was.
They're not really designed for north america, but other countries where rape has become such an extreme issue that products like these are advertised; which is pretty neat, because the advertisement of the product will work more as a deterrant than the device itself which only works after the fact.
