Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama reported making roughly $2.66 million in 2008, the vast majority of which, about $2.48 million, came in revenues from sales of Obama's books.
"The president sold a lot of books last year," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said.
The first couple reported taking in almost $202,000 in salaries, with an additional $54,500 in interest, dividends and capital gains.
Because Obama's book revenues are taxed as business income the family wound up paying more than $855,000 in taxes, including $66,000 in self-employment taxes.
