The first thing is easy to use AND customize promo. Adding a parameter to the banner/iframe url should be enough to change a bit the behavior. and it should be done on our side without having to create 500 different campaigns just because the iframe border needs to be different color or link to the join page directly.
So far, AFF iframes/banners creation tools blast everything. This is really annoying because there are lots of better programs that we could put on our network, but their promo tools suck so bad that surfers don't even click on them.
The sponsor test procedure here is the following, in case you want to implement some similar tests and make your banners/iframes better.
1 ) Setup account with the sponsor
2 ) Set a direct traffic link to that sponsor redirecting traffic directly to their tour instead of trades (in this case our other sites) at near 10k - 20k / day rate.
3 ) Collect conversion data during some days (usually one week).
4 ) Stop the traffic and wait for first check / wire to arrive.
5 ) Put the sponsor banner on a site we know how much it sends to the other sponsors... if there is some revenue generated from the direct traffic test.
6 ) Check stats to see how good did that banner perform.
7 ) If there is a big difference between the direct traffic and the banner performance, ask the sponsor for decent promo tools or just dump it.
Usually we end dumping the sponsors because their promo tools are horrible and not customizable at all.
It's a pity see that a sponsor converting 1:1500 with skimmed tube traffic ends having like 0.0001% CTR on their banners even that they may be having 1:100 conversion when surfers click on them... its still not worth it.
