This is true, OK so how many calories are you eating, how many calories are you burning?
Now it doesn't become so simple, this is where most people fall apart, knowledge is useless without understanding, if you go too low then your body goes into survival mode and stores calories, metabolism start to slow down and the biggest consumer of calories (muscle) gets sacrificed.
So I hear you scream "Hey buddy I ate once a day and lost a ton of weight" Yeah you did but I can guarantee you it wasn't fat, before you were 130kg @ 30% bodyfat and now you're 100kg at 30% bodyfat woohoo congratulation you have just scaled yourself down now you are a smaller version of a fat you.
1kg fat = 7000cals this is what you need to burn off extra but keeping in mind your BMR (basal metabolic rate) the amount of calories your body needs at a resting state, you know the cals your body needs to keep the heart and brain happy, as you can see the above statement just become a little more complex.
