Whatever you do, DO NOT reformat the drive.
The SATA interface is 'Serial' and IDE is a 'parallel' interface. Unless you have a special cable or adapter, the drive is probably not going to work in that configuration.
IDE drives could only have two drives per cable, and one was called "master" and the second was the "slave" drive. The position on the cable OR the jumper on the drive determined it's status. Check on the drive itself to see if there is a jumper, if there is move it to 'auto' or simply remove it and try again.
If no luck that way, you will need to install into a system that uses actual IDE interface and make sure to pay attention to the master/slave status, or it won't work there either.
