seems they gained an additional 25000 "life long" fans

Yes, there's a lot of new Chelsea fans since Abramovitch bought the team.
And I wasn't going to see them in '89 as I was living in San Francisco then. I was a fan when CFC lost to Spurs in the '67 FA Cup Final, and I was a fan when they beat Leeds at the FA Cup Replay in '70. I used to go to the Bridge regularly in the early 70's, standing in the Shed End--I even took one of my sisters with me pretty often. I ran on the pitch after the last game of the '77 season, when Chelsea won promotion to the First Division. I used to take my Dad to the Bridge in the late 70's and early 80's for pretty much every home game. And the week before I emigrated to the US, I saw Chelsea play twice--once at home, and once at Leyton Orient's ground--CFC were in the Second Division then. I've even flown to NYC to see them play at the Meadowlands, and scalped tickets ($300+) to watch them play here in LA against the Galaxy in Beckham's first game for them. And I get up at 4AM sometimes to watch their games televised live from England... and I'm really not a morning person.
So, speaking as a life-long Chelsea fan: Arsenal are still a bunch of cocksucking arseholes.
