Is it wrong that these countries have laws prohibiting free speech? Of course.. but... just.. dont... go .. there... No one put a gun to his head and forced him to poke the wasp's nest. It's not like he's some dupe with an extra bottle of duty free booze than is allowed.. he'd have known what he was potentially in for.

Two points (the first one not directed at you). Freedom of speech and thought should be a FUNDAMENTAL human right. It exists to protect speech the ruling parties DON'T like, not what they do. Secondly, sometimes the laws need to be challenged. If no one challenged the laws and accepted the status quo many of us would be burning as witches today. These cases have been getting a bit of attention lately (think David Irving), so him being charged is only more likely to shine the light on this bullshit (as is evident in this thread).
