A branch manager can usually straighten out whatever is bothering you. Don't rely on their online customer service people - most of them are totally worthless. I've had the best experience by just walking into a bank and asking for a manager.

I've used Wells Fargo when I was living in San Diego (I still have the account) and now I have accounts at two regional credit unions. My two small credit unions run circles around Wells Fargo as far as service, in my opinion. Wells Fargo is still to this day calling me and constantly trying to tack on additional BS "services" to screw me out of more money... my credit union has never once tried to nickel and dime me.
I don't know if all "small" banks and credit unions are like this, but I am definitely liking them more and more. They will continue to see my business. Wells Fargo can blow me.
