"Society just can't accept the idea that 50 percent of the population could die".....

Ok, so we got the swine flu now.. this reminded me fo the bird flu so I typed www.birdflu.com and found this quote.

Quote:
"I personally believe it will happen and make personal preparations....

Society just can't accept the idea that 50 percent of the population could die. And I think we have to face that possibility....

I'm sorry if I'm making people a little frightened, but I feel it's my role."
-- Robert G. Webster, world-renowned virologist at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

I looked it up, the quote is true.

anyway, this got me thinking, do you think we will ever have any kind of global pandemic anymore, like it happened in the past, meaning hundreds of thousands, if not millions people dying from some virus? Seems kinda hard to imagine in todays' age, but I guess some theoretical risk is there all the time.

Or perhaps will we face a virus made as a biological weapon one day?
