BOA is pretty nasty. I had two issues w/ them in the past few months. The first was the "standard" raising of the rate crap their all doing now. I called in and got them to lower it back to the original rate + .5 (8.5% at the end - better than the 16% they tried to stick me with).

Second incident was just last week. Sent me a letter saying they were CUTTING my available credit in half. Claimed it was due to my lack of use of the card. Again called them up and at the end of the call they had me back to my original limit.

The key is to just suck it up, play dumb and innocent, get past the first line and speak to the second line folks. There's no point in getting all pissy with them - no matter how much they suck. Think about it - the people answering the phones HATE their jobs and their only true satisfaction they get is being able to stick it to people that call in and bitch at them.

Play innocent: "gee, i'm not sure what happened here, is there someone I can talk to about this" - get to the next level of customer service - play nice again and unless you really do have some credit issues they will set you back to your original stuff. The best revenge is to keep the account open and only use it once every couple of months to fill your gas tank.

Get a line of credit w/ your local credit union or local / regional banks and avoid all this crap for now.

I also had to go through the rate crap w/ my 2 Citi cards and my wife's Chase card. Got them all straightened out though by playing nice w/ them. They're all criminals, they all suck, and unfortunately the only way to 'beat' them for now is to suck it up and play nice.
