I'm not even sure that they *did* read the referrer logs. I think more likely, somebody noticed that (from their perspective) crackho.com was illegally displaying the Alaska seal and Sarah Palin's picture, and they sent a cease-and-desist.
I think that if they really had checked their referrer logs, they would have figured out that their beloved Alaska seal wasn't actually on the crackho server at all.
Splum's comment notwithstanding, I do think it would be an amusing exercise to watch the attorney general's office send tons of takedown notices to servers that have no content to take down. I doubt it would get much in the way of publicity (and therefore, it would not be likely to raise much awareness), but it would certainly annoy her and her staff, and possibly further indicate how vain and utterly clueless she is.
