Personally I liked the bands mentioned above, but it put a nail in the coffin for a major label to sign my band of that time. We were being courted by several labels and I even had a VP at Atlantic Records soliciting song writing from me ... it all changed with Nirvana. Still, those were some kick-ass times for me!
