I'm thinking my next purchase might be the Sony EX3. The picture from my current AVCHD camera looks fantastic when transcoding from AVCHD to MPEG-2, BUT when I'm editing in MPEG-2, and then outputting AGAIN in MPEG-2, (and tweaking the brightness and contrast slightly) the image is getting slightly degraded. I believe the XDCAM format can be edited natively so I am not having to transcode from one format to another in order to avoid a transcoding step.

Also, I believe it does 4:2:2 which apparently gives a little more headroom than 4:2:0 for tweaking the image a bit.
