The basis of all humor is suffering; it is a coping mechanism. The more fucked up the subject, the more finding a way to laugh at it helps. A sitcom about the frustrations of being married with children, a video of some guy taking a softball to the nuts, a YouTube clip of an embarrassing performance, or crudely animated children using ethnic slurs and pantomiming the victims of 9/11, and everything else. Nothing funny is without that foundation of pain. It's how mentally healthy humans deal with otherwise unBEARable shit. It's the ones who can't take a joke who end up having emotional breakdowns.
