There are plenty of reasons to get killed over here. Girls, money, bets, drugs, messing with the wrong person and believe it or not, just embarrassing the wrong Thai can even get you killed.
I've heard a few stories where Thai guys break into a foreigners house. The foreigner wakes up and sees them, but instead of trying to catch them, she just chases them off. The Thai guys come back later and kill him because he saw their face and now they are embarrassed about the whole thing. Losing "face" is HUGE in Thailand.
