Simple rule with cops. Don't resist and be as nice as possible. Even if they still act like dicks don't take it personally. Realize they deal with assholes everyday and sometimes that makes them assholes. If you resist arrest 99% of the time you get what is coming to you. Just because you are in your 70's doesn't mean you are above the law.
