There are USB extenders out there that run over ethernet. I have one.. costs about $60.. go to CompUSA. i have it connecting to a plotter that is in another room and snaked the ethernet cable over to it.. works great.
so from your computer, you can run USB connection to your media player.. no need to deal with router, you would have a direct connection
you can leave it there temp to transfer files, then roll up the cable until the next time you need to transfer files..
