There was a unity of purpose back then...
It's mutated, and I think even helped to propel the first African American into the highest public office, but all too often people and organizations get preoccupied with their own narrow agendas and special interests, and lose sight of the big picture.
The same is true of the adult industry.
The adult industry is so fragmented and driven by large companies, that instead of combatting piracy and such, some at the top embrace it for their own short term profits, even though they are killing off many of the producers which the industry is built upon.
It's indeed disheartening that the mostly bogus adult social networking / dating businesses (and other companies propping up the loss leader sites based upon pirated/stolen content), could give a sh*t about whether the sites they advertise on are built upon stolen content, so long as they get traffic and make sells.
Likewise, some of the largest program owners have launched their own tube and other content piracy sites to drive traffic to themselves, with no consideration whatsoever about the cost to the industry as a whole.
At times the adult industry is it's own worst enemy.
Hopefully, the laws regarding piracy and copyright violation will catch up with the technology.
I always imagine how the industry would be so much better if we all tried to work together for a common purpose, instead of some always trying to get over on others. I honestly believe that everyone would be better off if we did - the adult businesses as well as the consumers.
Perhaps that is too much to hope for.
