I just went from a 3G to the 3GS

There is a Sweet Speed increase that was noticable from the first time I touched one in the store. Some apps are way faster... some.. there is only like a 1 second difference. I'm just a personl user (don't use any business apps) but I'm Really Happy with the phone(the 3GS over the 3G).

3GS VS 3G. Running both phones side by side and touching/activating apps at the exact same time(withing my human ability)

- Safari Web Browsing: 5-6 seconds faster and a lot smoother
- GPS Maps: 4-5 seconds faster and a lot smoother
- Viewing YouTube and other Media Lists that load thumbnails:
-- 2-3 seconds faster to load lists
-- Faster and smoother play of videos
-- jumping time points in videos smoother and faster

- View Contacts List: 2-3 seconds faster
- View a Contact: 1 second faster
- Opening/Activating camera: 1 second faster
- All other apps open, close and operate about 1-2 seconds faster

* The Keyboard is Much Smoother... dose not pause at all like the 3G does at times.

I was not eligible for early upgrade/new customer pricing I would have had to pay 400(16GB) or 500(32GB) for an early upgrade.

* But I Got it Anyway!

Heres what I did,

I went direct to an apple store. Apple stores can only activate NEW Accounts as if you are a New customer (because they get comission on it). Adding a 2nd line at an apple store also costs $20/Month (instead of $10/Month that Att Charges... again because they get comission).

They won't let the phone leave the store without a contract unless you pay full pricing (like 700 USD).

So, I activated on a new separate plan and got the discounted pricing.

The I went to an att store and switched the numbers so I could get my old number over to my new 3GS.

Then I called ATT customer service/relations and "Selected Disconnect My Service" as if I was going to leave or do an early termination on my old 3G. They offered me a shared plan at 49.00 (normally 59.00) and a 2nd line at $10.

Now I have 2 iPhones and I'm only paying an extra $40 (but it would be $60 extra per Month if I did not get the 49.00 shared plan that only att Reps in the Disconnect department can offer... and the $10 less for the 2nd line that only ATT direct can offer(not the apple store)

OK so $40 a month extra because any iPhone on the ATT Net - MUST have a Data Plan at $30/Month (theres no bypassing it because the ATT network will recognise an iPhone by its IMEI/Serial number.

But, you can SWAP off the IMEI/Serial number to another phone that is not an iPhone... and Drop the data plan. Just buy a $5 broken phone off of ebay and use the IMEI number from that. I just so happen to have an old black berry that I will use. Then I can drop the data plan. This Keeps both Phone Numbers - ACTIVE.. and subsequently does Not breech contract with ATT (if you do breech contract they will charge you the full price of the phone). All att Contracts are tied to the phone number.

Now that sounds like a lot.. but its not. I saved $200 and all I did was

- Go direct to an Apple Store
- make 3 phone calls to ATT.
- Switch an IMEI number.

My monthly bill comes out to Exactly what I was paying before....
