we had this arguement before you can absolutely know the number of people (quantity) of people downloading what you can't tell exactly who is downloading what.
ie i know at 200 people had half caff mochachino at starbuck by looking at the reciepts

we are talking about raw numbers not exact people.
even if you are hidden behind a proxy, the count of your download still happens
if it didn't you would not know which person is capable of giving you a piece when you request it.
nore would you be able to track ratios.
BTW those number are also the reason why i don't want to waste my time doing this stuff for real in porn
because will only 6% of the downloads are porn they represent 25 % of the torrents offered.
While tv shows represent 49+% of the downloads and only 10% of the torrents offered
in mainstream i compete against 2.5 less people for a market that 8 times bigger.
add the fact that the seed ratios suck and therefore cause a serious speed penalty to downloads/
That does not mean i can't turn a profit doing this, but for every hour spend i would make way more money in mainstream by an order of magnitude.
