I kind of feel like we are reliving things from 2000-2001 again when the dot com bubble burst. Before then everyone just wanted to give everything away. They didn't care about profit, it was about getting viewers on the site and eyes on content. Then they realized that most of those people weren't buying anything and ad revenue wasn't enough to sustain the industry. Companies like Yahoo nearly went under.
Soon after more people started charging for their content and cutting back on what they gave for free. Now it seems like we are heading back down that road only this time is consumer driven. Now people demand it to be free so companies are stepping in and giving them what they want. We are racing to see who can give away the most. Eventually I think we will hit the wall again.
