If instant access is their only selling point they've got problems, for sure.
I think though its best to stick with the same old words on the join links, if the surfer is going to want to use them the easier he can identify them to click them the better.
Of course there are more original methods to entice him to join, but one usually has more then 1 join link on each tour, lots of room for different strategies and wording. Even then though, a join link is a just that, a join link. You're not trying to sell him on clicking a join link, you're trying to sell him on signing up, which requires clicking the join link.
