He was in bad shape (Ken). Heard he even had faith healers to see him and other crazy shit like that. That was about 5 years ago, so he must have turned it around. Or is at the end of the line. Either way Ben must caught him at the right time or had his ear for a while.
This whole situation is sad and fucked up.
