He may have been a victim of profiling, but not by the police, by his own female neighbor. The police were just responding to the call and making sure the area was secure. They wanted to check his ID to make sure that he was the home owner and not some person breaking in, as the caller described. The police were doing their job. Gates fucked up by getting rowdy and pulling the race card when they asked for his ID.
I understand that it must feel shitty to be asked for your ID in your own home, but the police were just making sure he wasn't one of the 'black males wedging his shoulder into the door'.
Blame the neighor, not the police.
