Hot chick has low self esteem and poor self image and needs an ugly friend to be around which makes her feel better about herself.
Fat chick/ugly chick gets a self esteem/self image boost by being with an attractive person and having beautiful friends who are popular
The relationship is very symbiotic
The problem is that this symbiosis breaks down when the hot chick has hot guys all over her and the fat chick has no one... which then reinforces the low self esteem and poor self image again... hence the attitude and the attempts at sabotaging. if she can convince hot chick you're not worth it, then there is no threat of having to once again cry herself to sleep in a puddle of ice cream.
